[BL] Shadows in the Rain: A Tense Confession
The rooftop was slick with rain, neon lights from the city below bleeding into puddles like spilled blood. Kai leaned against the rusted railing, cigarette forgotten between his fingers, the ember hissing as drops hit it. He’d known Leo would follow. He always did.
Leo burst through the access door, coat soaked, hair plastered to his forehead. His eyes—those sharp, accusing eyes—locked on Kai immediately.
“You think running up here fixes anything?” Leo’s voice cut through the downpour like a blade. “You disappear for three days after that fight, ignore every text, every call. And now what? You’re just gonna stand here smoking like nothing happened?”
Kai didn’t turn. He flicked ash into the void below. “Go home, Leo. This isn’t your problem.”
Leo laughed—short, bitter, edged with something dangerous. “Not my problem? You kissed me in front of the entire team, then ghosted like I was some hookup you regret. You think I’m just gonna let that slide?”
Kai finally faced him. Rain streaked down his face, hiding whatever emotion might have been there. “I kissed you because I was drunk. Because I was angry. Because for one stupid second I forgot who we are.”
Leo stepped closer, boots splashing. Close enough that Kai could smell the wet leather of his jacket, the faint trace of cologne underneath. “Who we are? Enemies? Rivals? The guy who’s been trying to take my spot on the team since day one? Or the guy you stare at when you think no one’s looking?”
Kai’s jaw tightened. “Don’t.”
“Don’t what?” Leo grabbed the front of Kai’s shirt, yanking him forward until their faces were inches apart. Rain dripped from Leo’s lashes. “Don’t call you out? Don’t admit that every time we fight on the field, it feels like foreplay? Don’t say that the reason you hate me so much is because you want me too badly to stand it?”
Kai’s breath hitched. His hand came up, not to push Leo away—but to grip his wrist. Hard. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Bullshit.” Leo’s voice dropped, low and rough. “I saw it in your eyes that night. The way you looked at me after the goal—like you wanted to pin me against the locker and finish what we started. But you ran. Again.”
Kai’s grip tightened. “Because this—” he gestured between them, rain pounding harder now—“this ends badly. You’re the golden boy. Captain. Everyone’s favorite. I’m the transfer kid who’s always one wrong move from getting cut. If this gets out, if anyone finds out… I lose everything. You? You just get a scandal and a pat on the back.”
Leo’s eyes darkened. “You think I care about that? You think I’d let them touch you?”
A bitter smile twisted Kai’s lips. “You’d protect me? From your own friends? From the coach who already thinks I’m trouble?”
Leo released his shirt, only to cup Kai’s face with both hands—cold fingers against warmer skin. “I’d burn it all down for you. The team. The title. Everything. If it meant you’d stop pretending you don’t feel this.”
Silence stretched, broken only by the relentless rain and their ragged breathing.
Kai searched Leo’s face, looking for the lie. The hesitation. He found none.
“You’re insane,” Kai whispered.
“Maybe.” Leo’s thumb brushed Kai’s bottom lip, parting it slightly. “But I’m done waiting for you to catch up.”
He leaned in—slow, giving Kai every chance to pull away.
Kai didn’t.
Their lips met in a crash of heat against the cold rain. Desperate. Angry. Hungry. Kai’s hands fisted in Leo’s wet hair, pulling him closer like he was drowning and Leo was the only air left.
When they broke apart, gasping, foreheads pressed together, Kai’s voice cracked. “This doesn’t change anything.”
Leo smirked, breathless. “It changes everything.”
Thunder rolled overhead.
And for the first time, Kai didn’t argue.
